The School of Business and Justice Studies houses the Economic Crime, Justice Studies, and Cybersecurity Department (ECJS). Amongst its many programs the department offers the following undergraduate and graduate programs:
Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance
The B.S. in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance at Utica College offers the most extensive coursework in digital forensics and investigation currently available. It is an innovative, multidisciplinary program that provides the critical skills needed to succeed in this highly specialized profession.
The program integrates learning in criminology, criminal justice, economic crime, and computer science. The curriculum features:
- strong, diverse background study in liberal arts
- development of skills for investigators and technologists
- focus on writing, critical thinking, mathematics, statistics, and law
The program offers two concentrations:
- Network Forensics and Intrusion Investigation
- Information Assurance
- Cybercrime and Fraud Investigation
- Cyber Operations
Master of Science in Cybersecurity – Intelligence and Forensics
The M.S. in Cybersecurity – Intelligence and Forensics trains students to proactively address ever-changing attack and infiltration techniques. A leader in economic crime programs for over 20 years, Utica designed the program in response to calls from cybersecurity professionals for a graduate-level program that combines state-of-the-art practices in intelligence and forensics.
The program offers five specializations targeted to students with different interests in this field:
- Cyber Intelligence: Designed for professionals interested in cyber intelligence and counterintelligence, cyber counterterrorism, and cyber countersabotage. The curriculum covers analysis of global and national cybersecurity policies, the study and protection of critical infrastructures, as well as operations involving cyber threats and defense.
- Computer Forensics: Designed for students interested in collecting and preparing evidence of computer crimes such as fraud, child pornography, and cyber espionage. The curriculum emphasizes a comprehensive understanding of the forensic tools and techniques used to investigate and analyze network-related incidents and preserve digital evidence.
- Cyber Operations: Designed for students who wish to protect and defend organizations from cyber attacks. Students gain the critical knowledge needed through a hands-on, lab-oriented curriculum that includes an in-depth examination of cyber tactics, techniques, procedures and more.
- Malware Analysis: Designed for students interested in understanding the technical aspects of malware analysis. Coursework for this specialization focuses on the basics of malware, identification of malware, and mitigation of the effects of malware.
- Electronic Crime: Designed for students interested in understanding the technical, legal, and ethical aspects of electronic crime, white collar crime and fraud investigation. Coursework for this specialization focuses on risk and compliance, legal issues, fraud management and advanced techniques for performing fraud analysis.
Master of Science in Economic Crime Management
The MS in Financial Crime and Compliance Executive Master’s program combines the areas of management, technology, and analytical skills with a knowledge and Economic Crime Professional understanding of economic crime from a global perspective, and focuses on fraud and risk management strategies, current economic crime challenges, and applying innovative technological and analytical solutions. It has been designed to meet the growing security demands placed on experienced personnel in law enforcement, private corporations, government, and the military in the post 9/11 global environment.
The Financial Crime and Compliance Management program utilizes a flexible, online format with faculty-directed study and one, four-day residency at our beautiful campus in Utica, New York. This on-campus residency will provide you with hands-on digital forensics training using state-of-the-art computer forensics tools and technologies. Students will also develop their capstone project, tour Utica’s economic crime lab, and network with fellow students and faculty members.
